As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 12, God has gifted each of us by His Holy Spirit, and has shaped us for ministry to others in unique ways. We all have different passions, experiences, and abilities that God can use to bless others. Over the next few weeks, I am going to be running guest articles from NewLife members who are involved in ministries and fellowship opportunities outside of our church. If you would like to share about how God is using you in ministry outside the walls of our church, please let me know. Today’s guest writer is Stephanie Johnson.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
I have been participating in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for the past 4 years. During my time with BSF, I have developed a greater understanding of the Bible, as well as acquired training that I have been able to apply at NewLife with The Connect, our Tuesday night women’s group.
BSF is an international entity that supports hundreds of classes in the U.S.A alone and even more in 70 countries around the world. There are separate classes for women and for men. Some groups meet during the day and some meet in the evening. The class I attend hosts 215 women who come from across Connecticut to study the Bible together. Our groups meet weekly to discuss selected Scripture passages (we are currently working our way through Acts). After our discussion, all the individual groups come together to listen to a live lecture for further insight into the passages. Our class also has a 5 and under children's program where my kids learn Biblical truths at their appropriate age level.
After the lecture, as women leave, they take a new lesson to complete in the week ahead. The lesson includes notes on the passages discussed, and it also includes new Scripture readings with questions for the following week.
I love coming together in fellowship with other women who are seeking to know more about God. It's a great time to share as well as to be encouraged. There are many denominations represented at BSF, and I appreciate that BSF maintains unity by putting the focus on Christ and letting the Holy Spirit be the ultimate teacher or heart changer.
I started as a class member, and have been on the leadership team for 3 years. I believe in BSF's mission to magnify God and mature His people. I've enjoyed the fellowship of my sisters in Christ, my own spiritual growth, and watching others mature in their walk. If you are interested in learning more about BSF, I would love to tell you more about it, or you can visit bsfinternational.org to learn more about this great opportunity for spiritual growth.
