Guest blogger: Lynne Pleau - "Facets of Glory"
Today’s post is entitled “Facets of Glory,” and is written by Lynne Pleau.
“For the Lord is God, and He created the heavens and the earth and put everything in its place.” (Isaiah 45: 18a)
Imagine: what if God were a diamond the size of the Earth—internally flawless and burning with a fire infinitely brighter than the sun, rotating through space and shooting spectrums of light, through billions of facets, into every galaxy of the universe?
And what if we were the facets?
What if we were facets cut exquisitely into the surface of God’s Being: shaped for overall symmetry, placed where we are with precision, and designed to radiate His light at a specific wavelength, in a specific direction, for a specific time?
If we saw ourselves that way, would we fuss about our placement? Would we look with envy at a larger facet or strive for a different cut? Would we worry about whether we were projecting the violet or red ends of the spectrum, or just invisible light waves, not seeing where they go or who they reach? And what if we understood that our radiant surface is marred by the sin of our striving to be or do something beyond our purpose—blurring our clarity, hindering our ability to shine? Wouldn’t we instead focus on purifying our polish and refining our gifts and talents? Wouldn’t we find our greatest fulfillment in becoming more of who God created us to be and our greatest joy in being part of a perfect plan?
We are all precious. We are integral parts of an overall design. No matter how small or large our influence, it’s the quality of light we shine that matters. Let God choose the direction. One day we will know the lives we affected as we moved through time, transmitting—with billions of others—the brilliance of the Great Designer.
